Diploma of Merit

The Diploma of Merit is awarded to Kearns High School students for academic
excellence in various disiplines. In addition to meeting the Kearns High graduation requirements, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and CPA with no failing grades. Students must also earn a minimum of two Areas of Distinction through the departments of their choice.
Applications for the Diploma of Merit are available in the Counseling Center.

Areas of Distinction

Areas of Distinction show prospective employers, colleges and parents that a student has achieved a level of knowledge or skill in a particular area. Areas of Distinction will be designated on the Kearns High Diploma or Diploma of Merit. The Areas of Distinction are available to all K.H. S. students. Each department has developed their own requirements. Applications are available from the Career Center or a teacher in the following departments:

ART, ATHLETICS, BROADCAST COMMUNICATIONS, BUSINESS, CITIZENSHIP/SERVICE, COLLEGE PREP/ACADEMICS, DANCE, DRAMA, ENGLISH, FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES, FORENSICS, HEALTH OCCUPATIONS, MATHEMATICS, MUSIC, PUBLICATIONS, SCIENCE, SKILLED AND TECHNICAL SCIENCES, SOCIAL STUDIES, TECHINCAL THEATRE, and WORLD LANGUAGES


Area of Distinction applications are due to the Area Representative by Friday, February 7, 2014
Diploma of Merit applications are due to Mrs. Brough in the Counseling Center Thursday, February 13, 2014
